Nystav/Primstav Calculating time in an Old Norse Way with Sara Axtell - Atrium

Primstav, the old Scandinavian calendar, is a system that contains knowledge about time, place, and our connection to the natural world.  How did our Scandinavian ancestors mark time, and what can this teach us about the rhythm of their lives and their relationship to the land where they lived?  In this session we will learn about the history of the primstav, take a look at the symbols used to mark important times of year, and talk about the teachings the primstav holds for our own lives today.  Participants will have an opportunity to practice the primstav symbols and begin to create your own (paper) primstav.

Ancestral SoulCollage and Song with Bethany Jacobson - South Porch

Explore connections with your ancestors using a creative intuitive art process called SoulCollage. There will be time to make one or two cards during the retreat, and blank cards or kits available to purchase if people want to continue to make cards on their own. Bethany will share stories about embracing our ancestors through SoulCollage and ritual. We will learn a simple song as we ask our ancestors to join us, and  different ways to use our cards, to create altars, or use for other work. Participants can bring copies of actual ancestor photos, or use images from magazines to create cards representing your ancestors. All materials will be provided, although participants are welcome to bring images or magazines if they wish.
